Oct. 13 – A Sort of Homecoming

Tonight we’ll build a bridge
Across the sea and land
See the sky, the burning rain
She will die and live again
Tonight

And your heart beats so slow
Through the rain and fallen snow
Across the fields of mourning
Light’s in the distance

Oh don’t sorrow, no don’t weep
For tonight, at last
I am coming home
I am coming home
(U2)

On a day when 33 Chilean mine workers finally reunite with loved ones after spending the last 10 weeks deep inside the earth, Great River Radio will celebrate the meaning of homecoming in our “Confluence” segment. We’ll play a number of songs that explore the yearning we all share to return to familiar places … and some of the inherent challenges of coming home again. You’ll hear unique takes from the likes of Simon and Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Ben Kweller, Tom Waits, Earl Hines, Patty Griffin and Anders Osborne. And we’ll reflect on a different sort of homecoming – the passing of Solomon Burke.

We also have compelling new music from Neil Young, Mark Ronson & The Business Intl., Jakob Dylan & Three Leg, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and The Black Keys.

Join Great River Radio today at 4:15 p.m. (CST) for 90 minutes of great music and thoughtful conversation. Or listen later via our show archive.

Sept. 29 – Fall Revelers

Welcome fall revelers! Just a brief reminder to let you know that Great River Radio is ready to rock your world today!

Well, it won’t all be rock. There’s some roots, some romance and a little Rolling Stones as well. As we’ve mentioned during the first couple of shows, a lot of great new music was released this summer. We’re going to catch up with on some of what we’ve missed, and turn our thoughts to a few new fall releases as well.

Listen in to hear great tunes from Justin Townes Earle, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Local Natives, The Walkmen, Neil Young, Mavis Staples and Lissie. We’ll also have a unique set of Bob Dylan covers. And you won’t want to miss super fresh new tracks from Sufjan Stevens, Superchunk and The Ting Tings.
