May 4 – Sowing the Seeds

In an interview about their new album, Hey Rosetta! lead singer Tim Baker talks about the band’s new songs:

In the title track, the idea is that we are seeds, traveling from town to town, blowing around, settling down here and there, trying to make something for people. Really, I like the name Seeds for the record because the songs are seeds, and that’s the idea. They’re these little things –- four and five minute things — but they have the ability to grow in your brain and be far more meaningful than just what they are.

There are also recurring themes of springtime and rebirth and hope and that sort of stuff…”

At Great River Radio, we are all ready for themes of springtime and rebirth and hope and that sort of stuff!  Brian and Dan have been busy during the last two weeks, what with the end of the semester approaching, and springtime activities and responsibilities.  Dan was in New York for a few days, and has been to four music events in the last week.  Brian was doing the work of a promoter, working with UST students to bring Cloud Cult to campus for a very successful event last weekend.  But that is what we do!  And we love spring, even though it is still very tentatively creeping into our part of the country.

Today on GRR, we’ve got loads of new songs that you’ll love.  In addition to the seeds that Hey Rosetta! will be scattering, Dan will play one song from each artist he heard in the last week, including Marshall Crenshaw, Emmylou Harris, and Bill Frisell.  Brian has Cloud Cult and to whet the appetite, My Morning Jacket, this summer’s Rock the Garden headliners.  Everyone is talking about Fleet Foxes’ new release, Helplessness Blues which dropped yesterday.  Their first record was thought by many to be one of the best of the decade, and the latest has been getting very good reviews.  We’ll have more from Lykke Li, The National, Low, Washed Out and The Feelies as well as a sampling of new music from British artists Frank Turner, Daphne Willis and indie band Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs.

You don’t want to miss today’s show.  We are sowing seeds here, friends!

Peace.

Brian & Dan

I deal with some of Hey Rosetta!’s radio promotion, so thanks for doing this feature.

I also work with another Canadian band, The Trews, available in the Twin Cities on 5/25 if you want them in person on the show. More info at http://www.thetrewsmusic.com. Can you let me know if you’re interested?
