If it’s Tuesday, it’s time for another broadcast of Great River Radio

Dan’s on the road to NYC this week, but his influence will be in the studio.

Last week witnessed the passing of Odetta Holmes (simply known as Odetta), a prominent singer, songwriter and human rights activist. Odetta, often called “The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement,” had a deep and lasting impact on folk singers of her time – including a young Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Mavis Staples. Martin Luther King Jr called Odetta, “The Queen of American folk music. I’ll take a brief look at Odetta’s life and play some of her incredible music.

Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders are back with their first album in six years, Break Up the Concrete. I’ll spin a few tracks from their catalogue, and share some news about the upcoming tour. I’ll also have exciting news about an upcoming Gary Louris/Mark Olson release. You might remember them as the creative team behind The Jayhawks.

And as always, there will be new music from Department of Eagles, Travis, and very new Bon Iver and matt pond PA. I also have some fresh music from Great River Radio favorites Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Takka Takka and Frightened Rabbit.
